  • The Internet TESL Journal- The Internet TESL Journal includes lesson plans, classroom handouts, links of interest to ESL teachers and students, articles, research papers and other things which are of immediate practical use to ESL teachers.

Social studies

  • National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) - This web site is designed to help Social Studies educators at all grade levels find the information and resources they need.
  • Alberta Social Studies Council (SSC)- This web site contains links to resources, lesson plans and other information about teaching social studies.
  • Canadian Social Studies Provides teachers with over 100 lesson plans and teaching ideas. Also contains links to daily news, weather, social issues, Canadian web sites, aboriginal peoples, and more.
  • The National Atlas of Canada- Very descriptive online atlas of Canada, also contains excellent teacher resources in the areas of Canadian geography, topography, statistics and other government sites.
  • National Geographic MapMachine- Excellent site for viewing different maps from around the world. Information about the area being viewed can also be obtained.

Science

  • National Science Foundation- Contains information and links to resources about science education.
  • Science Council - The ATA Science Council web site contains links to resources, lesson plans and other information about teaching science.
  • YES Mag- Canada's science magazine. The site contains information about science for youth including simple projects that can be done at home and also contains a section for teachers and/or parents.
  • Sam's Page, Science: K-12 Resources- Contains links to science sites that are grouped by grade (2-12) and topics according to the AB program of studies.
  • Science Brainium- Features science games, lessons, experiments, animation adventures, links to appropriate Web sites, current science news stories, lesson plans, worksheets and assessments. A 30-day trial is free, but after that you will need to purchase a membership.
  • The Exploratorium- The Exploratorium is a collage of 650 science, art, and human perception exhibits.
  • NASA- Excellent site for information about aeronautics and space research
  • .The Why Files- Their theme is "Science behind the news" and the site offers teachers with excellent current events to use in the classroom while providing students (and the public) with valuable information about science.
Math
  • National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Here you will find everything from professional development information, to teacher resources, to Internet links.
  • The Math Forum- This site provides teachers with information about teaching math, integrating technology, links to quality math sites and projects, and a forum for discussing ideas.
  • TERC- Here you can find links to projects, products, and publications including curriculum, earth and space science, equity, mathematics education, online learning, school reform, and much more.

Physical education

  • Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD)- This national non-profit organization is committed to the health and well-being of Canadians and brings together teachers, administrators, researchers, coaches, students and others who have an interest in the fields of physical education, physical activity, health, fitness, sport, recreation and dance.
  • CanTeach: Physical Education- This site is designed to assist teachers in finding and using resources online with an emphasis on lesson plans, resources, and links that have a Canadian focus.

Art

  • ArtsConnectEd- This site is a gateway to the art collections, educational materials, and other online resources of The Minneapolis Institute of Arts and Walker Art Center supporting the needs of the K-12 art education community.
  • Art Education and ArtEdventures- Fun and educational lesson plans, art adventures, and hands-on art activities.
  • Arts Wire: Online Communications for the Arts- This web site is dedicated to providing artists with information about technology and the Internet as it relates to the arts.

Music

  • The Music Education Launch Site- This site provides music educators with a valuable source of information, services and resources, including lesson plans.
  • Alberta Registered Music Teacher's Association (ARMTA)- ARMTA is dedicated to music education and encourages teachers and students in their musical pursuits through a variety of programs. Their Web site contains information about the programs, teaching music and links to other music sites.
