Summary: Assessment will be based on two assignments. 1. Contribution to discussion on the course WebBoard. This is a web-based conferencing system: postings you make to the group are automatically made available to the other members of the class. You should aim to make a first posting as soon as possible (within two weeks of the start of the course). Formality is not required, however it is a good idea to keep contributions reasonably short (say 100-300 words) and user-friendly. Don't post essays. I will be monitoring the quality and frequency of contributions to the group: I will be looking at the degree of understanding of the issue being discussed and the take up of points you make by other contributors. Following these criteria I will assign a percentage, probably between 60 and 90 (corresponding to grade points 7 to 9). This percentage will contribute 30% to your final grade point for the course. Assessment weight: 30% 2. A paper will be written according to a flexible format which will allow for later publication (voluntary) on the Project-Approach website. Term Paper Assessment in this course will be through a term paper on a project carried out in a school classroom or early childhood (preschool/Kindergarten) centre. It is anticipated that the project will take different forms according to school context and the age of students with whom the teacher is working. Weekly class sessions will provide opportunities for formative evaluation of the project work in progress and specific feedback will be given by email to each class participant. Reading instructions will be given by the instructor for each module. These references, the Project Approach Web Site and the course texts (Engaging Children's Minds and the two Project Approach books published by Scholastic) will provide common reference points for class and WebBoard discussion. Each course participant may also have different concerns in relation to his/her own classroom setting. Accordingly different emphases may be taken in the writing of term papers. The project description will be considered for publication on the Project Approach Internet Website, URL (internet address): http://www.project-approach.com.. The project account will be marked in two parts. The first part will document the first phase of the project and the field work (30%). The second part will document the follow-up classroom investigation and representation as well as the third and concluding phase of the project(40%). Assessment weight: 70% |
There will be no examination. |
