Here are some neat websites for you:
www.ualberta.ca/~jkirman This is the Canadian Social Studies Super Site. It is a portal site for Canadian teachers and those interested in teaching about Canada and Canadians and is the companion website for your textbook. This site is available to you when you are in the field for classroom planning.
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Thebes/9893/ This site has some excellent information for new teachers. It's introduction is: “Hello and welcome to Teaching is a Work of Heart. If you are looking for teaching ideas, inspiration, links, lessons, units, activity sheets, virtual sites, or a laugh - you are at the right place. I have designed this site as a learning tool for myself and as a helping tool for other teachers who love teaching children as much as I do. Enjoy!”
http://www.theteacherlist.ca Pete McKay, a teacher with Edmonton Public School Board, has a listserv for teachers. If you sign-on to the list he will e-mail to you URLs of interest to teachers on a regular basis. This is an excellent service to keep you posted on Internet materials you can use for planning. I'm also pleased to note that Pete is a former student of mine.
http://www.lite.iwarp.com/weaveint.htm - "Weaving The Internet Through Your Elementary Literacy Curriculum: Enhancing and Extending Literature Lessons with Technology." This is a quality site developed by Julie Coiro, an education consultant and doctoral student at the University of Connecticut. It is designed with the teacher in mind and is also a portal for other technology sites. WARNING: - the legal information at this site is not applicable to Canada.
