Welcome to EDIT 488. I get a lot of questions regarding what this course is about (I realize the blurb in the calendar is ambiguous). The course is completely online and consists of weekly learning activities as well as a number of smaller assignments. There is no midterm or final exam in this course. There is usually one meeting during the term over the Elluminate system that will require you to attend a session at a specific time. Currently, the course is divided into the following units. These units will change for the 2011 Winter Term, but seeing last year's outline should give you a general idea of what this course is about. Unit 1 - Foundations of Electronic Communication
Unit 2 - Methods of Collaborative Learning
Unit 3 - Communication on the WWW
Unit 4 - Methods of Visual Communication
Please note that EDIT is a fourth year course that makes a number of assumptions. The first is that you have an adequate prerequisite - EDIT 202, CMPUT 101 or CMPUT 114. Please do not register in this course if you do not have one of the prerequisites, or feel that you have the equivalent skill level. The second assumptions is that since this is a 400 level course, you have already taken some courses in education and have some knowledge of things like lesson plans and unit plans. If you do not have prior experience lesson planning or unit planning, you may still enroll in this course, however, you may find it more challenging than some of your peers. Please proceed to eClass if you are enrolled in this course. Note that you will not be able to see the course in your "My eClass" list until the day classes begin. There is a strong chance that this course will be migrating over to Moodle. The university will be adopting Moodle over the coming years and this course will likely be a pilot course for the new system. If that happens, I will email a link to those registered in the course and post it here as well. Please send any information requests via email to Kim Peacock.
