Alberta Assessment Consortia : Some valuabe online reading and resources here for classroom assessment. More materials available to registered members. There is no cost for registration.
Centre for Leadership & Learning : A consortium of school districts and other stakeholders in southern Alberta sponsoring multiple PD opportunities. Includes links to a listserv, and free access to a number of articles in the International Electronic Journal for Leadership in Learning.
Galileo Educational Network : Supports and resources for inquiry-based learning. Link to learn about IO inquiry project management software.
Alberta Home & School Councils' Assocation : A non-profit organization linking parent school councils across the province. Information on "hot" topics in Alberta education, including class sizes, diploma exam concerns, and transportation.
A good place to connect with other parents taking an active role in Alberta's K-12 education system.
Alberta Learning Curriculum Site : especially for parents, these pages offer overviews of Alberta's K-12 education system and curriculum. Also a good source for explanation of different types of schooling available in Alberta, including Francophone, home/blended, charter and private schools. Links to homework help and other parent resources are provided.
Alberta Teachers Association Parents Page :most resources here are directed to school councils.
However, The Learning Team, the ATA's newsletter for parents and teachers, has extensive archives filled with interesting
articles. Parent councils can request ATA workshops here.
Canadian Parents for French : an extensive site available in English and French. Many resources for Francophone families, and parents with students in French immersion programs. CPF has individual chapter sites as well; the Alberta Chapter of CPF has more resources, and current news related to French language schooling initiatives at provincial and federal levels.
Canadian Parents Online : this Canoe site contains commercial content, but hs an extensive resource base for parents.
Discussion forums and chat rooms are available. Articles sorted by developmental stages offer advice on health, developmental concerns, parenting strategies and kids' schooling.
Centre for Gifted Education : this University of Calgary site has a reading list, and resources for educators and parents of gifted children. Links to Edmonton and Calgary chapters of the Alberta Association for Bright Children .
Library in the Sky : this American resource for parents and educators has an extensive library of downloadable documents on a variety of topics in education.

About.com : About.com is a searchable network of articles and resources about most topics under the sun! Sometimes necessary to wade through/ignore advertising, but generally good quality and range of articles on given topic(s). The link provided here takes you to sources about children at different developmental stages. For teens, link to articles about parenting
adolescents, drug free children, guide to puberty, talking about tough issues, teens and risk and more. (In search book type in "teen health.)
